When working on novelty titles, I reviewed multiple rounds of white dummies from both the paper engineers and the production team to compare sets and make sure the pops opened and closed correctly, without getting snagged or smushed. I typeset each title using very complicated die-cut files, reviewed flat color proofs for each separate piece of art (which, for some titles, totaled in the hundreds), and checked 3D proofs of each pop for trim accuracy and functionality. The end result of this complicated process was completely amazing—and very intricate—works of art.
CHANUKAH LIGHTS was a 2011 Parents’ Choice Award winner and 2012 Sydney Taylor Book Award winner.
