Art directing EL CUARTO TURQUESA / THE TURQUOISE ROOM was a wonderful experience. I was able to work collaboratively with the author, editor, and illustrator to ensure the final book was true to the autobiographical aspects of the story while still retaining the mystical and magical feeling of the art and giving plenty of space to the bilingual text (figuratively and literally). In the end, Adriana Garcia’s paintings worked perfectly with Monica Brown’s lyrical text and the result is a beautiful and timeless book.
