LOOK BOTH WAYS IN THE BARRIO BLANCO by Judith Robbins Rose
Interior design & jacket art direction for middle-grade novel
LOOK BOTH WAYS IN THE BARRIO BLANCO is all about boundaries between English- and Spanish-speaking neighborhoods, which I reinforced throughout the interior with grid lines around the display text and including Spanish chapter numbers. The full wrap jacket also shows the neighborhood divide, with the main character on the front and her mentor on a billboard on the back. Sara Palacios’ illustration perfectly reflected the book, with wonderful, relatable characters in a vibrant setting.
LOOK BOTH WAYS… was nominated for the International Latino Book Awards, Mariposa Award, Colorado Children’s Book Award (Nominated), and Colorado Author’s League Award.
